I understand people like to have a good laugh by creating funny pictures but when you make him into a laughing stock or just a thing for creating love fanfics you're taking it over the line.

Tall, dark faceless guy who stalks people and kidnaps children...you'd be hard-pressed not to be at least a little bit creeped out by him.
Just look at those arms. I'll bet he gives great hugs! ^_^ *shot*

He's a creepy humanoid monster with tentacles who wears a suit and is notorious for kidnapping children. Even if it turns out he's really a decent guy, you gotta admit that's pretty frickin' creepy. :D

I based a lot of my headcanons on the music video to "First of the Year" by Skrillex. Or I just like the idea of a suit-wearing tentacle monster beating the shit out of a pedophile. XD

Yes. A thousand times YES. Slenderman does need to keep his horror appeal. There's all these "pairings" with Slenderman and some versions that just bring shame to him...

:iconannoyedslendermanfan:
If people absolutely MUST pair him up with someone, it should at least be a character with a creepy appeal as well /:

Yeah, but I'd say only if it's a working team thing, like that new Slender game that's been out for a while. Personally, I'd say "Let the horror factor work alone!" That's one thing that makes GOOD scary characters: A solo figure that can take out a group.

I always thought the Slenderman ate his victims, I've seen like two pictures that support this, everything else is rape, not scary

Slenderman as a rapist? XD I actually think that the scary thing about Slender is the fact that we don't know what happens to his victims. What he does to them? Why? The fear of the unknown :)

You would think that it wouldn't be that hard to keep his horror appeal especially considering the fact that he looks like something ripped from the brother's Grimm books, I mean those stories are quite frightening!

Mom: *after done reading book* Goodnight sweet dreams!

Me: Okay mommy....(Sweet dreams my ass!)

Ahhhhh early childhood memories! Oh no....Nostalgia attack....being....pelted.....with dearly missed.....moments of life!

I think his intrinsic creepy factor, insofar as the images/description are concerned, has (had) an expiration date, much like Freddy Krueger, but I agree in the sense that he has a lot of untapped potential to be scary. Instead people keep recycling the tired old Marble Hornets concept, which the creators have said many times isn't supposed to be the actual Slender Man.

The best Slenderman stuff, IMO, are the ones that keep Slenderman's origins and explanation a mystery, because that is what really scares people: the unknown.

I like creepy/scary slender... But I also like addressing the questions that the creepy side bring up... What is Slenderman? Why does he do the things he does? Is he sentient? If so; what does he gain from purposefully kidnapping (and possibly eating) humans?
It's because of these reasons why I don't make "creepy" Slenders... Along side the fact that if I try to make anything scary it comes off as humorous.
Instead of making a "creepy" Slender, I choose to make a more... Human Slender. One that has reasons to do what he does and undermine the offensive connotations found in modern fan-art.
One cannot sully a good reputation if there is logic behind a persons actions.

Interesting perspective. But the thing is, Slenderman is not human, therefore, the reasoning behind his actions would probably defy human logic.

No, he's not human.
Maybe he was, though.
He also reacts to very particular stimuli (The notes, children, trees, ect), just as a human would, therefore there IS some sort of logic behind everything he does, just like an animal or human... However, his actions connotate humanity.
He percieves and predicts his prey's moves and traps them in an isolated area where they still have free reign of the place(much like a human would), and appears to stalk only when needed be and let his spoils come to him, unless they move, in which he follows (again human move).
Moreover- if you're loyal to the way the original Der Großermann legend, as well as Marble Hornets depicts him; he lets his objective's fear get the best of them before doing anything physically aggressive. Szun Tzu wrote about this in his book "The Art Of War", and these actions are rarely followed by animals to the extent that humans and the Slenderman use it.

Interesting analysis. At the end of the day, since there are no canonical facts about Slenderman, we can only theorize. Since he was created as a horror character, that's how I think he should be kept as.

Just to note, there is no such thing as a Der Grobermann legend.

Okay, not LEGEND legend, but the story exists, and it is part of folklore. And in English phonetics it's Der Grosserman (I got a good chewing out from a friend for not pronouncing it right)...

I think that Slenderman having no canonical binding is part of his appeal, as horror, or whatever his fans have the choice of, we get to speculate. If you want to get down-right technical, Slenderman started as a photoshop creation, and the creator has let us do as we will with him. Since he's got no cannon, he is free to be as we make him.
